Finally Finished That Skirt and Legwarmers!

This skirt has been lying in pieces around my workshop for a few months now. I tried sewing these two pieces together once before and had to rip it out. It was now or never–in the words of Nike–just do it. Either it works or fails miserably but at least I’ll know and can move on. Well, I sewed and tweaked and ripped some more, but I think it’s working for the most part and i wore it out the other night to hang with some friends.
The top plaid section is the lapel of a men’s blazer. Somehow I wrapped this piece around my waist and thought ‘this would make an interesting waist band’. The thick gold velvet is some upholstery from I can’t remember, I think a yard sale in Denver. I added a cool zipper and button to finish it off.
I also finished these legwarmers I’ve been working on! They are super thick and warm — great to keep me toasty and still look cute! I wanted a pair that could be worn tucked in boots or you could fold them down and wear sneakers or whatever.
